Uwase Samilla: Class - Percussion & Vocal | Age - 13 years old
I started studying at Rwanda Rocks in June, 2016. I am 13 years old. Since then, I have achieved many things including learning how to play drums and how to sing. I also had a chance to visit Village Urugwiro where I saw our First Lady face to face, something that seemed impossible for me. Before I came to Rwanda Rocks, I always asked myself where I could get music skills from. I couldn’t find an answer anywhere. I had no hope because my family couldn’t afford for me to attend a music school here in Rwanda. But that didn’t stop me from loving it. Fortunately, I now attend Rwanda Rocks where I learn music from experienced teachers. I have hope now that my future will be bright.

My name is Byukusenge Sauda and my daughter is Samilla. Honestly, I never really liked musical activities as we are from the Islam religion. It made me angry at first because our religion does not accept this. I called one of the teachers so that he could explain to me what they were teaching our kids. The teacher came and explained why music was important and how it could help my child. I accepted his explanation, and then he promised that he would be responsible for controlling her so that music did not make her fail her classes or change her behavior. Then I saw as my child continued to study at Rwanda Rocks, she became more disciplined and I realized that all my concerns were just in my imagination. I certainly agree now that all the skills she is acquiring are because of music. She is growing up very fast and learning to become a good person. Being at Rwanda Rocks keeps her very busy and she stays out of trouble. She does not have time for bad relationships with boys. I can also see that she is performing very well academically which is a wonderful thing.
